Senior Software Engineer (OCaml Experience)
<p><span style="font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;">Jane Street Group, LLC has multiple openings for the position of Senior Software Engineer in New York, NY.</span></p> <p><span style="font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;">The position duties are as follows: Develop software in OCaml as part of the trading and operational infrastructure for a proprietary trading company.</span></p> <ul> <li style="font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;"><span style="font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;">Support traders and other users of the company’s technology infrastructure on Windows, Linux, and MacOS platforms; </span></li> <li style="font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;"><span style="font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;">Analyze and respond in real-time to problems arising from the firm’s technological infrastructure; </span></li> <li style="font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;"><span style="font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;">Work in all parts of the software lifecycle, including gathering requirements, design, documentation, management of code review, creation of testing plans, as well as implementation and management of deployment and monitoring of the resulting software systems; </span></li> <li style="font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;"><span style="font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;">Proactively identify, propose, and implement improvements to our systems including infrastructure optimization, reliability enhancements, and operational efficiency gains; and </span></li> <li style="font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;"><span style="font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;">Train junior developers in all of the above.</span></li> </ul> <p><span style="font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;">The position requires a 3 or 4 year Bachelor’s degree or foreign equivalent in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering or a related quantitative field plus two (2) years of experience in any occupation where an individual gains experience developing software. Experience must include:</span></p> <ul> <li style="font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;"><span style="font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;">One (1) year of experience developing software using OCaml, including utilizing algebraic data types and pattern matching, applying functional programming principles, implementing concurrent operations, and optimizing code based on understanding of OCaml's runtime behavior;</span></li> <li style="font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;"><span style="font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;">One (1) year of experience managing software release cycles and software QA processes; </span></li> <li style="font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;"><span style="font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;">One (1) year of experience using the Mercurial distributed version control system; </span></li> <li style="font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;"><span style="font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;">One (1) year of experience using asynchronous programming, typeful software design, and monadic programming; </span></li> <li style="font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;"><span style="font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;">One (1) year of experience rapidly diagnosing and resolving software issues in time-sensitive production environments; and</span></li> <li style="font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;"><span style="font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;">One (1) year of experience programming on the Linux platform, including working with network programming and scripting tools.</span></li> <li style="font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;"><span style="font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;">All technical requirements for this role may be subject to employer conducted testing to assess minimum proficiency.</span></li> </ul> <p><span style="font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;">Part time telecommuting may be permitted with manager approval.</span></p> <p><span style="font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;">Ref.
